#GMVEMSC: FW: FBI Chemical Industry Outreach Workshop - 13 June 2018: Butler Tech., Liberty Twp., Ohio.

The Cincinnati Division of the FBI in coordination with Butler County Sheriff’s Office Bomb Squad, is holding a Chemical Industry Outreach Workshop (CIOW).  This workshop is similar to the past CIOWs held in Butler, Logan, Athens and Franklin Counties, Ohio.  June’s workshop will be held at the Butler Tech Public Safety Education Complex, 5140 Princeton-Glendale Road, Liberty Township, Ohio 45011; June 13th, 2018.  Workshop registration/sign-in will begin at 7:45 a.m., and the day’s activities will end at the Butler County Sheriff’s Explosive Range at approximately 3:00 p.m.

The cost of the CIOW is FREE.

Who Should Attend: Chemical industry safety/security professionals, chemical industry representatives, law enforcement, first responders, and academia.

Scope of the CIOW:

The CIOW workshop is part of the FBI’s National Improvised Explosive Familiarization (NIEF) initiative designed to raise the awareness of the use of common chemicals to produce improvised explosives.

The classroom portion of this training will be held at Butler Tech (above address). The main body of morning briefings will focus on FBI initiatives, capabilities/investigations and the overall chemical threat.   After a networking/coffee break, FBI Special Agent Bomb Technician will provide a brief on explosives and associated Improvised Explosive Devices (IED’s).

The afternoon will consist of a short field trip to the Butler County explosives range for a live demonstration of various explosives and IED’s, most of which can be mixed using common household chemicals. This demonstration is designed to underscore the potential danger of these chemicals, both in the hands of criminals and terrorists; as well as amateur experimenters.

Awareness materials will be provided for CIOW participants to use within their agency or industry to promote security.
