CQI Committee Request

The GMVEMSC CQI Committee would like to assess its process on collecting QA/QI data from a single PCR. We are asking fire department based EMS to evaluate this process. This assessment would include downloading an Excel spreadsheet, Single PCR Workbook. Using this spreadsheet would determine if your single PCR matches our measurements. If a match occurs, click on the hyperlink to complete a short survey.

We have less than a month before our next meeting, Oct 4th at 1130. And we would like to discuss this assessment at the meeting. Please direct any feedback to chris64brock@gmail.com or bring it to the meeting.

A couple things:
If you query multiple PCRs to perform your QA/QI, please still evaluate this process. We want all the feedback we can get. We will be testing our multiple PCR process soon.

· All measurements in this assessment are draft measures and have not been approved by the CQI Committee.
· There are only 4 call categories in this assessment, which are:
o Chest Pain
o Fall
o MVC
o Cardiac Arrest (only transports, no field terms)

Thank you for your time,
Chris L. Brock

GMVEMSC Mobile App

The updated GMVEMSC mobile app is live and now loaded with the latest 2016 protocols for all certification levels! The issues experienced recently by Android users have also been resolved by the app hosting company.

If you already have the app, just close and relaunch it to see the latest features and protocols. If you do not have the app yet stand by a few days as we are in the process of submitting it to the Apple App Store and Google Play so it can be downloaded by new users. We'll let everyone know when that process is complete.

We appreciate your patience, and as always let us know if there are ways the app could be improved!

Thanks,
GMVEMSC Web Team

EMS Council Requesting Information on Your Runsheet Methods

Just a reminder:  we're trying to get information from every EMS agency that's a member of Council.  If you haven't already done so (and thank you to the SIXTY agencies who have!), please reply by Friday!  The survey takes only two minutes.

Greater Miami Valley EMS Council (GMVEMSC) and Greater Dayton Area Hospital Association (GDAHA) have a committee working on integrating electronic patient care reports (ePCR) with hospital electronic healthcare reports (EHR).  Personnel  from both hospital networks are represented on the committee, along with EMS providers and GDAHA/GDAHIN.

Our intent is to be able to connect EMS providers with the EHR in every hospital in the region.  We are trying to select a vendor who can work with EMS agencies regardless of what brand of ePCR you use.  Goals for this project include:Reduce need for printing reports
Import EMS reports directly into EHRs, with the EMS reports immediately available to ED staffProvide improved statistical reporting for both hospitals and EMS, and dramatically improve QI data for EMS
Improve billing data accuracy for all providers (hospital and EMS)

To help us with this project, we're asking that every EMS agency in Greater Miami Valley EMS Council complete the following very short survey about your agency, how your personnel document EMS runs, and your interest in this project.  Please complete this survey by June 10, 2016 so that we can keep this project moving forward.  To complete the survey, simply click here:  https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/PYKHKRF

Thank you for your help.

2016 EMS Week Resources and Sample Proclamation

Happy EMS Week!
You will receive congratulations this week from many sources, including President Obama (who issued the EMS Week Presidential Proclamation on Friday) as well as our close partners, the hospitals of the region.  Please also accept the thanks of Greater Miami Valley EMS Council for all that you do.

If your agency hasn't already, we hope you'll consider adapting the proclamation sent out by GMVEMSC PR Committee Chair, Bryan Adams, and having it issued by your community.  A draft proclamation is at the bottom of this email.

In addition to all the many celebrations of this week, there is one that will actually occur next week:  the Greater Miami Valley EMS Council Meeting at 2 PM, Tuesday, May 24.  This will be a very special meeting.  We've booked a different location for this meeting so there will be room for many to attend.  More information will be out on the listserv in just the next few days, but put the meeting on your calendar.  It will include an opportunity to see some of the people who have contributed to the long and rich history of our Council, and who have had major roles in making EMS in our region what it is today.  We will also present our annual awards, so make sure to attend!

Plan to be there!

Ohio Division of EMS, EMFTS Board and the Ohio ACEP Host 16th Annual Star of Life Awards

Premier event recognizes and honors Ohio’s excellent prehospital providers

the Ohio Department of Public Safety’s Division of Emergency Medical Services (EMS), the State Board of Emergency Medical, Fire, and Transportation Services (EMFTS) and the Ohio Chapter of the American College of Emergency Physicians (Ohio ACEP) will join forces and host the 16th Annual EMS Star of Life Awards ceremony in observance of National Emergency Medical Services Week (May 15-21).

“An estimated 240 million calls are made to 9-1-1 in the U.S. each year, with approximately 1 million emergency runs for EMS in the state each year,” said Ohio EMS Executive Director Mel House. “EMS teams are ready to provide critical, lifesaving care to those in need 24 hours a day, seven days a week; with many of our first responders being volunteers.”

National Emergency Medical Services Week brings together local communities and medical personnel to publicize safety and honor the dedication of those who provide the day-to-day lifesaving services of medicine's "front line."

The ceremony will be held Wednesday, May 18, 1p.m. in the ODOT Auditorium at 1980 W. Broad Street, Columbus, Ohio.

The theme "EMS STRONG: Called to Care…"exemplifies the commitment and dedication of the 750,000 EMS providers nationwide, and the more than 34,000 in Ohio, who provide an essential community service every day.

For in-depth coverage of the ceremony that day, watch live  at www.ems.ohio.gov, become a fan on Facebook by searching Emergency Medical Services or follow us on Twitter at OHIO_EMS.
