The Ohio Division of EMS and The Ohio Fire Academy have been advised that many of our brothers and sisters across the state are staying in campers, garages, and even cars because of the fear of exposing their families to the COVID virus. All of these folks still working in the streets are already under enough stress and risk without having to risk their families or endure the austere conditions of living in their garage for weeks on end.

Below are several free options that are available for Ohio's first responders and healthcare workers.

COLUMBUS, Ohio, April 6, 2020/PRNewswire/ -- Red Roof®, the leader in upscale economy lodging, has launched Room in Your Heart: Opening Doors to First Responders, as part of the brand's giving program, Room in Your Heart.  Room in Your Heart: Opening Doors to First Responders shows love and provides assistance and support for essential workers on the frontlines in the battle against COVID-19. The country's first responders, including dedicated nurses, doctors, firefighters, police and emergency medical providers, are fighting tirelessly to combat COVID-19 while selflessly putting their own lives at risk. Many are also self-quarantining away from their homes and spending time apart from their families to protect their loved ones.  Through May 31, Red Roof is donating a limited number of available rooms to these brave heroes, giving them a place to sleep and stay in between shifts at participating properties across the country. Rooms can only be booked directly at participating hotels

  • Also, RVs for MDs is a Facebook group that is providing RVs to first responders and healthcare workers so they can stay in an RV in their driveways instead of their garage, car, or pay for a hotel. https://www.facebook.com/groups/rvs4mds/

  • NAEMT has partnered with Hilton and American Express to provide hotel rooms to frontline medical professionals in the U.S. during the COVID-19 pandemic. Any former NAEMT member can take advantage of this partnership with Hilton and have a safe place to stay as you support those impacted by COVID-19. Beginning April 13, you will be able to access these rooms at no cost to you through our association website. Bookings can be made in up to seven-day increments from next week and currently through May 31. NAEMT will send you additional information on where to go on our site once the booking site is live. http://www.naemt.org/WhatsNewALLNEWS/2020/04/06/hilton-to-provide-naemt-members-free-rooms-during-the-pandemic

  • Airbnb is partnering with hosts to connect 100,000 healthcare staff and first responders with places to stay that allow them to be close to their patients — and safely distanced from their own families. https://www.airbnb.com/openhomes/covid19relief
