Please share with EMS crews:

Miami Valley Hospital Update

As Miami Valley Hospital services expand there will be a few construction projects & changes that will impact EMS starting today, June 27, 2018.

1.     MVH EMS Room: The EMS room will be expanding. During the construction some of the room and computers will not be able to be used temporarily. There will additional computers available in the dictation room between rooms 5 &6 if all the computers in the EMS room are being used. See map below or perch nurse for location. As part of the expansion project, the dirty utility room (the room to the left of the EMS room) has been permanently closed. The biohazard & trash containers have been relocated to a keypad locker outside the EMS sliding doors (see attached picture). There is also a new backboard washer located near Hazmat Garage.  If you would like to use backboard washer please ask an ED staff member for assistance.

2.     MVH EMS Entrance off Main Street: Employee parking lot located at Apple St. & Main St.  has been permanently closed to build new new rehab is the Rehabilitation Institute of Ohio, a joint venture with Encompass Health. Some employees will now be parking at the old Fairgrounds and use crosswalk on Main St. at EMS Entrance stop light and walking on side walk to hospital entrance. Please be aware of change in pedestrian traffic.

3.     MVH Ambulance Parking: The white CompuNet vehicles will no longer be using the ambulance entrance/parking area. This will help alleviate some of the congestion in this area.

4.     EMS Coordinators Office: MVH EMS Coordinator Offices have moved from ED Administration. The new offices are located near Central Supply. If you are standing at Central Supply the EMS Coordinators offices are just over your left shoulder. Look for signage in the hallway.

5.     MVH Room Numbers: Some room numbers have changed. Additional signage has been added.

Thank you for your patience during the construction as we work to improve the EMS area.

#GMVEMSC: FW: Regional Quarterly Triage Day: June 19

A couple of reminders about Tuesday’s Quarterly Triage Day (QTD) Drill that starts at 8 AM on the 19th.  It will include use of the MARCS radio MCI Talk Groups for all hospitals during two 2-Hour blocks of time, and an OHTrac incident will be available for every agency to use.  Full details are attached.  Don’t forget that training materials (with CE) for both EMS and hospital personnel continue to be available at http://gmvemsc.org/training-mcicomm.html.

Finally, give us feedback!  At the end of the drill or the end of your shift, we request that every EMS agency and hospital fill out this brief feedback form, which you are welcome to print beforehand to help you gather the data.  Here is the link to the feedback form: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/June18QTD, or here’s a QR code for the survey that you can scan with your phone:

Subject: FW: Regional Quarterly Triage Day: June 19
Importance: High

The region’s next Quarterly Triage Day (QTD) Drill will start at 8 am June 19, 2018, and end at 8 am on June 20, 2018.

·        During this exercise every patient should receive a triage ribbon and a GREEN triage tag.

·        Hospitals should apply the tag and ribbon if EMS does not or if the patient self-transports.

All hospitals need to monitor MCI radios from 1 – 3 pm and from 8 – 10 pm.

EMS crews transporting patients to a hospital during these times should provide a brief message to the hospital via the MCI radios.

Finally, all hospitals should update their GDAHA Surgenet MCI page at least once every 8 hours, and practice entering patients into the OhTrac incident, which will be created by GDAHA for the drill.

There is more information in the attachments, including an MCI Communications Drill Job Aid, and a QTD flyer.  Hospitals are asked to post these attachments in EMS Rooms and elsewhere. EMS agencies are asked to display the information in stations.  Please help us get the word out to all line personnel, both in EMS and in EDs.

If you need additional GREEN triage tags or triage ribbons, contact GDAHA or Dayton MMRS.

Thank you for participating in QTD drills. You are helping the region better prepare.

#GMVEMSC: Verizon modems for transmission of 12 leads to hospitals.

There have been departments in the area receiving an error message while transmitting 12 leads to the ED. The errors were occurring with Physio products, so I contacted our service representative with Physio. He stated Verizon is in the process of updating their towers in preparation for moving away from 3G. He stated this has or will (in the near future) cause an error on the modems during transmittal of 12 leads to the ED. He provided a number (1-800-732-3081), which is the smart desk for Physio. They were able to update my modem and solved the issue. When you call this number you will need to have your modem connected to the monitor as well as a computer, utilizing a USB A/B cable (usually a printer cable). The technician with the smart desk will remote into your computer and update the software. Then you need to test the modem utilizing the test transmit function, so the technician can ensure the modem is still communicating with the network. These instructions are only for Physio products and if you are utilizing a different manufacture, I recommend you contact them to see if there is a needed update. If you have any questions let me know.
