A few years ago, the Ohio EMS for Children Program proposed the creation or assignment of a pediatric emergency care coordinator at each EMS agency to ensure quality pediatric care and to provide pediatric leadership. EMS for Children has developed performance measures. The measures focus on the availability of online and offline pediatric medical direction, pediatric equipment on ambulances, pediatric training for prehospital providers, and categorization of emergency departments for their ability to care for children.
In an effort to better serve our member agencies, Greater Miami Valley EMS Council created a Pediatric Committee with Heather Koss as Chair to assist our agencies with the pediatric leadership discussed above. The roles of this committee are to oversee pediatric EMS protocols and guidelines, promote pediatric continuing education, and participate in process improvement and pediatric prevention programs. They will also liaise with emergency department care coordinators. Our hope is that this committee helps each EMS agency and their providers be more prepared to care for ill and injured children.
Greater Miami Valley EMS Council is searching for a co-chair for the Pediatric Committee. If you would like to be considered for the co-chair role, or would just like to be placed on our email distribution list for committee members, send an email to gmvemsc@gdaha.org.
