#GMVEMSC: FW: Community Paramedicine (Research) Committee Meeting, Tuesday, June 18th

The next meeting of Greater Miami Valley EMS Council's Research Committee, currently focused on issues regarding Community Paramedicine/Mobile Integrated Health Care, will be at Tuesday, July 16th.  The meeting will be held at Greater Dayton Area Hospital Association, 241 Taylor St., Dayton, OH.  All are invited.

The meeting starts at 12 Noon, however for those who would like to come early, our co-chair Dr. Pook will be presenting for a webinar, and her presentation, "Ready, Set, Pause" will originate from GDAHA.  We're invited to sit in on this webinar for the Ohio Hospital Association that targets ALTO- alternatives to opioids. With the recent and ongoing opioid crisis, it is important to match the type of pain and presentation with patient specific details. While there are times when opioid therapy is integral to treatment and healing, our complex medical environment suggests that non-opioid alternatives be utilized whenever possible. We will review a brief history of the crisis as well as outline a platform for effective treatment. The resources are freely available through a web address, but those in attendance will also have written protocols for reference. Case examples will be discussed. This presentation will be broadcast as a webinar throughout the state of Ohio.  Dr. Pook's presentation will begin at 11:15 AM.

We will also have a guest speaker at this meeting.  Many areas around the country and here in Ohio are using a system called Overdose Detection Mapping Application Program (ODMAP) as a HIPAA-compliant method to track information on overdoses.  Public Health – Dayton & Montgomery County, through the Community Overdose Action Team (COAT) is exploring the use of this tool. In an effort to share how ODMAP has successfully been implemented in other Fire Departments in OH, we have invited Assistant Chief Menapace from the City of Whitehall to speak about  implementing ODMAP into the overdose response checklist at Fire/EMS agencies.  Whitehall FD has created the Whitehall's Help for Overdoses (WHO) program and utilize ODMAP as part of their daily operations. AC Menapace routinely gives presentations on the ODMAP system and their agency's experience utilizing the interface.  We have attached his complete bio and an outline of the presentation for your reference. We hope to see you there next week!

Lunch will be served.  Please RSVP by Monday morning to slehrter@gdaha.org to we have a lunch count.
