#GMVEMSC: FW: CDC Interim Guidance for EMS Systems and 911 PSAPs for 2019-nCoV in the US

See the link below for an EMS advisory from the CDC.  This is some of the most effective guidance for EMS released to date.

As before, each agency and Dispatch Center must determine their own course of action.  However, given that there are no confirmed cases in Ohio or even in any adjacent state, our concern continues to be that recommendations for travel screening by dispatch have the potential to slow the dispatch process for people who are having difficulty breathing, when the likelihood is extremely high that the patient’s problem is NOT 2019-novel Coronavirus (2019-nCov).

That said, if a caller advises a dispatch center that they are recently returned from China or have other reasons to believe that they may have 2019-nCov, that information should be communicated to responding crews.  Crews should also immediately notify the hospital.

CDC Interim Guidance for EMS Systems and 911 PSAPs for 2019-nCoV in the US

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has published Interim Guidance for EMS Systems and 911 Public Safety Answering Points (PSAPs) for 2019 Novel Coronavirus in the United States (Interim Guidance). The Interim Guidance can be accessed at https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/hcp/guidance-for-ems.html. The Federal Interagency Committee on EMS (FICEMS) encourages all EMS and 911 stakeholders to review the Interim Guidance.

The CDC continues to closely monitor an outbreak of respiratory illness caused by 2019-nCoV that was initially detected in Wuhan City, Hubei Province, China. The most up-to-date information can be found at https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-nCoV/.
