As many of you know, Drs. Bailey and Dixon have been dedicated Medical Directors for many of the Greene County Fire Departments for decades. Sadly their recently born grandson has been diagnosed with a very rare genetic disorder and is in urgent need of a bone marrow transplant. Noah was diagnosed with Wiskott-Aldrich Syndrome (WAS). There have only been 300 cases of his disorder documented worldwide (3 in Ohio). Noah is about 2 1/2 months old and is in urgent need of a donor. Nationwide Children's needs to be able to provide a transplant by the age of 6 months. Ideally they are targeting February. But the need to do so sooner is a very real possibility. Not obtaining a transplant will likely result in Noah only being able to live to the age of 8 (best case scenario). Obtaining a donor match results in a 90+% cure rate. Donor testing takes about 4-6 weeks to get results. Drs. Bailey and Dixon are trying to help get drive thru oral collection done through Kettering Health Network (KHN) to make the process as easy as possible.
Please review the attached word file from Noah's parents. Drs. Bailey and Dixon are members of our EMS community, whose family needs our support. Baby Noah, a member of our extended family needs our help!
