This is very cool. Ohio was chosen as a participant state.
PLEASE distribute to your fire department contacts:
Fire Prevention Week will be here in a few weeks October 8-14, 2017. This years theme, Every Second Counts Plan 2 ways out! focuses on the importance of home fire drills.
Saturday, October 14 marks the second annual Home Fire Drill Day created by Nationwide's Make Safe Happen program. The observance day was developed to raise awareness of the risk of home fires and the need to practice fire drills at home – we do them at work and kids participate in them at school, but many families aren't practicing at home -- a place where is it even more important to be prepared because that is where many structure fires occur.
The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) and the Make Safe Happen (MSH) program will partner this year in select states to pilot a fire safety program with the goal to broaden the reach and deliver impact around fire safety through social channels and event activation. Nationwide's Make Safe Happen program has social content that you can share via your social channels any time after September 21, 2017 in addition to the resources at Fire Prevention Week. In addition, there is an opportunity to partner with a local Nationwide Agent that will be available to help support your local events in OH, DC, AR, and AZ . The Nationwide Agent will come prepared to distribute their Home Fire Drill Day Kits, which include the following items:
Emergency Contact Cards – resource for parents and caregivers to write down important phone numbers
Make Safe Happen Maps - provides an overview about the Make Safe Happen program, and a home map to help families get started on making their homes safer
Fire Escape Plan Magnet – a blank grid, with instructions, for families to map out their home fire escape plan
Coloring Books
Children's Fire Fighter Hats
If you are hosting an event and are interested in participating in this year's pilot program, please reach out to CF Younger with Nationwide. Thank you for your consideration.
