2016 EMS Week Resources and Sample Proclamation

Happy EMS Week!
You will receive congratulations this week from many sources, including President Obama (who issued the EMS Week Presidential Proclamation on Friday) as well as our close partners, the hospitals of the region.  Please also accept the thanks of Greater Miami Valley EMS Council for all that you do.

If your agency hasn't already, we hope you'll consider adapting the proclamation sent out by GMVEMSC PR Committee Chair, Bryan Adams, and having it issued by your community.  A draft proclamation is at the bottom of this email.

In addition to all the many celebrations of this week, there is one that will actually occur next week:  the Greater Miami Valley EMS Council Meeting at 2 PM, Tuesday, May 24.  This will be a very special meeting.  We've booked a different location for this meeting so there will be room for many to attend.  More information will be out on the listserv in just the next few days, but put the meeting on your calendar.  It will include an opportunity to see some of the people who have contributed to the long and rich history of our Council, and who have had major roles in making EMS in our region what it is today.  We will also present our annual awards, so make sure to attend!

Plan to be there!

Ohio Division of EMS, EMFTS Board and the Ohio ACEP Host 16th Annual Star of Life Awards

Premier event recognizes and honors Ohio’s excellent prehospital providers

the Ohio Department of Public Safety’s Division of Emergency Medical Services (EMS), the State Board of Emergency Medical, Fire, and Transportation Services (EMFTS) and the Ohio Chapter of the American College of Emergency Physicians (Ohio ACEP) will join forces and host the 16th Annual EMS Star of Life Awards ceremony in observance of National Emergency Medical Services Week (May 15-21).

“An estimated 240 million calls are made to 9-1-1 in the U.S. each year, with approximately 1 million emergency runs for EMS in the state each year,” said Ohio EMS Executive Director Mel House. “EMS teams are ready to provide critical, lifesaving care to those in need 24 hours a day, seven days a week; with many of our first responders being volunteers.”

National Emergency Medical Services Week brings together local communities and medical personnel to publicize safety and honor the dedication of those who provide the day-to-day lifesaving services of medicine's "front line."

The ceremony will be held Wednesday, May 18, 1p.m. in the ODOT Auditorium at 1980 W. Broad Street, Columbus, Ohio.

The theme "EMS STRONG: Called to Care…"exemplifies the commitment and dedication of the 750,000 EMS providers nationwide, and the more than 34,000 in Ohio, who provide an essential community service every day.

For in-depth coverage of the ceremony that day, watch live  at www.ems.ohio.gov, become a fan on Facebook by searching Emergency Medical Services or follow us on Twitter at OHIO_EMS.
